Adding Sounds and/or Music to a Web Site

Adding sound-music is easy. Theirs several ways to add sound to your web site. You can use FrontPage to add background music and/or sounds for your pages or hover buttons, also you can manually insert HTML coding to accomplish adding these files.

Several things you should consider before choosing your method:

When using the FrontPage insert background sounds, some browsers can not recognize the music.

Some people that visit your site may not want to hear music when they enter.

How should you set up the music to play?  What are your targeted viewers preferences?
Do you want viewers to be able to play or not the music if they choose too, or for it to auto play?

NOTE: I personally dislike sites that embed sounds to play automatically.
( sometimes I don't like the music, most times I'm in a rush and don't want to be bothered with it, as I most likely have my own playing in the background.)  So take others likes and dislikes into consideration, also the purpose of the music? Does it enhance your design? Does it have a purpose!

Once you've made those decisions then you can choose the best format to present your sound or music with in your web site.

First create a folder named music to hold your music files in your website.  ( right click in Folder List View, choose new, folder, the text will be highlighted, hit the backspace key on your keyboard, type in the word music and then hit the enter key. You've now created a music folder.)

Now place your selected music into this folder.  The easiest way is to drag and drop, but use what ever method is comfortable for you. Once you've added all your music files to your FrontPage music folder.  Your ready to make your webpage sing!

Sound using FrontPage Background function:

Set a background sound for a web page

  1. In Page view, right-click the page, and then click Page Properties on the shortcut menu.
  2. On the General tab, under Background sound, in the Location box, type the sound file you want to play, or click Browse to locate the file.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • To play the sound continuously, select the Forever check box.
    • To play the sound a fixed number of times, clear the Forever check box, and enter the number of times you want the sound to play in the Loop box.

When a site visitor opens a page, the sound is played.

Note   This feature is not supported by all Web browsers. See Graphic Below for Page properties dialog box, the sound function is underlined!
